The Russian expedition ship Nadezhda
The ship was built in England in 1799 as a merchant ship and slave transporter. In 1802 she was bought by the Russian-American Company, renamed and equipped with 81 men for the first Russian circumnavigation 1803 – 1806, in which the Nadezhda served as the flagship for Admiral Krusenstern.
Wikipedia has articles on Nadezhda , also in English Nadezhda and Russian Надежда . Drawings of the ship were published in “Modelist Constructor” a few years ago.
The Nadezhda ship model, photos and dimensions
The model was created by a very experienced modeller according to the plans in “Modelist Constructor” and other plans of such English ships. Here are more photos: various overall views from all sides, various views of the upper deck, the hull and the rigging . Click on the pictures to zoom in!
The model of the Nadezhda is a very beautiful, pleasing work, a rare masterpiece. Almost all the sails are set and stand astern as if the wind were blowing from starboard. Hull, upper deck and rigging are superbly finished.
The 1:50 scale model is 101 cm long, 35 cm wide and 72 cm high.
The model comes with a display case made of pine and (quite bad, strong light reflections) plexiglass, which can serve as protection if you want to pick up the model with your car. The showcase will not be shipped by air freight. The showcase is 111 cm long, 40 cm wide and 76 cm high.
The model works best when it is displayed without a display case.
