The Hoogaars from Arnemuiden in the Dutch province of Zeeland
The Hoogaars was a typical fishing boat built in Arnemuiden and other shipyards in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Since they could hardly navigate the open North Sea, they were mainly used for crab fishing in the Westerschelde.
The Arnemuidense Hoogaar ship model, photos and dimensions
Extensive information and construction plans of the ship type are contained in the book “DE HOOGAARS en de visserij van ARNEMUIDEN” by Jules Van Beylen, Hedeby Publishing, Leeuwarden, 1993, ISBN 90-74541-03-8, as well as in numerous other publications.
The model was created by a very experienced model maker. Here are more photos: various overall views from all sides, various views of the upper deck, the hull and the rigging . Click on the pictures to zoom in!
The model of the Hoogaar is a precisely detailed work, a masterpiece. The sails are on port tack, as if upwind. The hull lines characteristic of these boats are well defined. The sails and hull are superbly rendered.
The 1:32 scale model is 52 cm long, 21 cm wide and 41 cm high.
The model comes with a showcase made of birch wood and (quite bad, strong light reflections) plexiglass, which can serve as protection if you want to pick up the model with your car. The showcase will not be shipped by air freight. The showcase is 59 cm long, 27 cm wide and 44 cm high.
The model works best when it is displayed without a display case.
